Water/Sewer Field Technician

 

Position:          Field Technician 1 or 2

Salary Range:  Field Tech 1 (OIT):  $58,240 - $64,001, DOE with full benefit package

Field Tech 1:  $64,001 - $79,123, DOE with full benefit package

Field Tech 2:  $73,413 - $89,502, DOE with full benefit package

JOB SUMMARY: Northeast Sammamish Sewer & Water (NESSWD) has an opening for a Field Technician. The successful candidate will be appointed to the appropriate classification (1 or 2) depending on their qualifications. Under general supervision, the Field Technician is responsible for the on-site maintenance and operation of the District’s groundwater wells, reservoirs, water distribution systems, sewer lift stations, and sewage collection systems.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Check water site and sewer station operation. Inspect electrical and mechanical functions, lubricate and clean equipment, remove blockages, repair safety hazards.
  • Locate water and sewer mains, water meters, manholes, and other utility infrastructure.
  • Read water meters and install new registers.
  • Perform flushing and jetting on a routine and as-needed basis.
  • Inspect, service, raise, and/or replace meter boxes, manholes, blow offs, hydrants, etc.
  • Operate construction related equipment such as dump truck, vactor, mini excavator, backhoe, cut-off saws, and hand tools.
  • Communicate effectively with employees and customers.
  • Perform skilled work in a team environment.
  • Other duties as required.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: NESSWD is looking for an energetic, self-motivated, quick-learning candidate with a basic understanding of the safe and appropriate use of tools and heavy construction equipment. Knowledge of hydraulics, pumps, motors, utility repair, maintenance, plumbing, landscaping and basic electrical is preferred. Candidate must have the ability to maintain accurate records and forms; communicate clearly; perform complex math equations; use a computer and MS Office Programs; meet preventative maintenance timelines and goals; work effectively with employees and the public.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Field Tech 1

  • 0-3 years hands-on experience in utility construction or maintenance.
  • Washington State Certification in Water Distribution Manager 1, First Aid/CPR, Traffic Control, Confined Space Entry, Competent Person/Cave-In Protection, AC Pipe or ability to obtain within 1 year.
  • Minimum Class B CDL with tanker and air endorsements or ability to obtain within 1 year.

Field Tech 2

  • 3 - 5+ years hands-on experience in utility construction or maintenance.
  • Washington State Certification in Water Distribution Manager 2, Cross Connection Specialist (CCS)First Aid/CPR, Traffic Control, Confined Space Entry, Competent Person/Cave-In Protection, AC Pipe or ability to obtain within 1 year.
  • Minimum Class B CDL with tanker and air endorsements or ability to obtain within 1 year.
  • Water Treatment Plant Operator in Training (WTPO-IT) certification is also preferred.

 

REQUIREMENTS: High school graduate or GED. Experience in utility maintenance or water and sewer industry preferred. Valid Washington State Driver’s License. Must be available for “on-call” rotation and 24-hour call out-for emergencies. Candidate must have a clean driving abstract and criminal background check before offer of employment.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS: Duties are primarily performed in the field with exposure to extreme weather conditions for extended periods of time. The position is physically demanding and requires extended periods of lifting, carrying, jackhammering, shoveling, and other forms of manual labor. Must have the ability to bend, crawl, and work in restricted areas. Must be able to lift tools, equipment, or materials weighing up to 50 lbs.
