Pay Range             :  $58,821.27 - $94,055.79 annual

Hiring Range        :  $58,821.27 - $83,198.40 annual, depending on experience and qualifications

Schedule               :  Monday – Friday 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM, occasional overtime, evenings and weekends

Job Summary:

Silverdale Water District is currently seeking an Engineer Technician. This position performs and coordinates a variety of specific and non-specific tasks related to project management, inspection, operation, maintenance, customer service, and construction of the District’s water distribution.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D., or any combination of experience and education, which provides the skills, knowledge, and ability required to perform the job.
  • Possess a valid Washington State Driver’s License.
  • Must be willing to complete ongoing and continuing education as it relates to technology, safety and other job duties or responsibilities associated with this position.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications.

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Coordinates, schedules, and oversees all activities in areas of assignment to assure that work is performed efficiently and according to appropriate guidelines, procedures and regulations.
  • Assists in the preparation of engineering designs, plans and specifications for water system improvements, pump stations, reservoirs and similar items related to District projects.
  • Assists in the operations of the water system and corrects any water quality or quantity concerns. Ensures compliance with state and federal water quality rules and regulations.
  • Assists in activities that may be required as a result of emergencies created by situations such as water main breaks, pump failures and control system failures.
  • Assists the project engineer on projects being done by contractors, including the preparation of the necessary bidding documents, contract award recommendations, progress payments, interpretation of plans and specifications, schedule compliance and field inspections.
  • Act as a representative of the District, as assigned, at various external meetings.
  • Enforces District policies, regulations, safety and health standards and all other applicable administrative and operating procedures.
  • Performs other duties, as assigned by management.

Position Requirements:

Knowledge of:

  • Knowledge of engineering and construction practices and principles as they apply to water utility systems.
  • Knowledge of safe working procedures and practices.
  • Knowledge of and ability to enforce policies, laws and regulation of the Water District.

 Skill in:

  • Proficiency or ability to learn basic AutoCAD, ArcGIS, and Water CAD.
  • Effective communication, both written and oral, and interpersonal skills for interactions with coworkers, supervisors, and the general public.
  • Ability to inspect routine projects and to detect variances from the approved design specifications and construction practices.
  • Ability to coordinate critical operations during emergencies involving system failures.
  • Self-starter with a growth mindset and strong desire to learn and focus on process improvement.
  • Ability to be self-motivated and possess a strong work ethic.
  • Strong organizational and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong people and customer relationship skills.

Ability to:

  • Ability to develop and administer policies, procedures, plans and activities.
  • Ability to keep informed of any changes in policy, methods, operations, budgetary and equipment needs, etc., as they pertain to departmental operations.

  • Ability to follow through on assigned tasks, meet deadlines, budgets, and prioritize/communicate work effectively and efficiently.

  • The successful candidate will have the ability to work well under pressure and stay calm in stressful situations.

Physical Requirements:

This role may entail activities such as stooping, kneeling, walking, pulling, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.

Physical Effort: Occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force, frequent exertion of up to 15 pounds of force, and constant, negligible force may be required to move objects.
