Job Title:         Utility Worker I & II

Status:            Non-Exempt

Section:           Field

Reports To:     Operations Manager – FIRST READING 9/27/2024

Salary:             34.90 – 44.62 hourly

Position Overview:

We are looking for our next team member to join our collaborative and supportive team at Olympic View Water and Sewer District. This position will be filled at either the II or III level depending on the applicant’s experience. The role involves on-site maintenance and operation of the District’s water distribution, wastewater collection, and water treatment systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • General Duties (All Levels):
    • Safely perform maintenance and operational tasks related to the District’s water and wastewater systems.
    • Install, maintain, and repair water systems, hydrants, and wastewater components.
    • Operate District equipment such as sewer jetting vacuum trucks, CCTV trucks, and other related machinery.
    • Respond to customer inquiries with professionalism and courtesy.
    • Conduct inspections, testing, and record-keeping for District projects.
    • Perform water meter installations, repairs, and accurate readings.
  • Additional Responsibilities (Utility Worker II & III):
    • Monitor water treatment processes, including responding to telemetry alarms and ensuring compliance with regulations.
    • Provide directions to other Utility Workers in the field.
    • Troubleshoot and address mechanical, electrical, and structural problems related to the water and wastewater systems.

Qualifications:

Utility Worker II & III:

    • Utility Worker II: Minimum 2 years of experience in utility maintenance, installation, and operations in water/wastewater utilities or construction industry.
    • Utility Worker III: Minimum 4 years of experience in utility maintenance, installation, and operations in water/wastewater utilities or construction industry.
    • Certification Requirements (Utility Worker II & III):
      • Utility Worker II: Must obtain Water Distribution Manager I, Wastewater Collections I, and Water Treatment Plant Operator In Training II (WTP OIT II) certifications within one year of hire.
      • Utility Worker III: Must obtain Water Distribution Manager II, Wastewater Collections II, and Water Treatment Plant Operator II (WTP II) certifications within one year of hire.
      • Must obtain Cross Connection Specialist certification within one year of hire (Utility Worker III).
    • Ability to direct other workers and take the lead on operational tasks.

For All Levels:

    • Valid Driver’s License and ability to obtain a Washington State Driver’s License within 30 days of hire.
    • Strong communication skills to effectively work with supervisors, co-workers, and the public.
    • Washington State Commercial Driver’s License Class B with tanker and air brake endorsement required for Utility Worker II & III.
    • Exceptional attendance is mandatory.

Certifications (All Levels):

  • First Aid, CPR, AED, and Bloodborne Pathogens certifications within six months of hire.
  • Washington State Traffic Control certification within six months of hire.
  • Confined space entry, trenching, and shoring certifications within six months of hire.

Work Environment:

This role is primarily field-based, requiring the ability to work in various weather conditions, confined spaces, and exposure to wastewater systems and chemicals. Physical demands include lifting up to 100 lbs and performing tasks such as climbing, crouching, and standing for extended periods.
