It has never been a more exciting time to work for EWEB’s Water Division, which consists of an 80 million gallon per day water treatment plant, 800 miles of distribution pipe, 25 pump stations, 23 reservoirs, and numerous pressure zones serving almost 200,000 customers through both retail and wholesale contracts. Some of the largest projects in EWEB’s Water Division History are in construction or planned to occur over the next ten years. The successful candidate will plan, scope, schedule, and conduct complex engineering work as needed to maintain EWEB’s water system and implement the Water Capital Improvement Plan (CIP). The work may involve leading internal teams, performing engineering work independently, and/or managing engineering consultants to develop engineering plans, reports, cost estimates, schedules, contract documents, and other deliverables. Projects will likely include replacing and upgrading water tanks, pump stations, transmission pipelines, treatment plant, and distribution pipelines.

Based on the Water Division’s current needs, EWEB is especially interested in hiring a candidate who: 1) demonstrates knowledge and experience with planning, designing, and managing municipal drinking water projects; 2) has the ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams to deliver complex water infrastructure projects; 3) possesses excellent interpersonal skills with a track record of inclusive, respectful, and professional behavior in all interactions; and 4) is motivated to work independently with high degree of ownership in the work they do.

Specific duties of the Staff or Senior Engineer may include, but aren’t limited to:

  • Act as lead design engineer, project engineer, or project manager as necessary on projects with novel, difficult, and multi-disciplinary aspects or features.
  • Review external engineering plans and development proposals.
  • Prepare technical memorandums, regulatory reporting, and engineering studies related to EWEB’s water system.
  • Support operations stakeholders by providing technical reviews, engineering advice, work prioritization, and maintenance of technical standards and drawings.
  • Lead project teams and routinely interact with crew superintendents, foremen, contractors, other utilities, regulatory agencies, City of Eugene, and other internal and external stakeholders as necessary to deliver projects.
  • Provide construction management including regular site visits, reviewing inspection reports, processing change orders, leading regular construction meetings, responding to RFI’s, preparing budget reports, coordinating with operations stakeholders, and other tasks as necessary to ensure projects are constructed to the approved plans and specifications.
