JOB OPPORTUNITY – Project Engineer- Capital
Are you passionate about public infrastructure and utility engineering? Alderwood Water & Wastewater District (AWWD), the largest special purpose water and wastewater district in Washington State, is seeking skilled and motivated Project Engineers to play a key role in managing the planning, design, and construction, of critical infrastructure.
AWWD’s 45-square mile service area covers portions of multiple jurisdictions and is a critical link between the county’s major water source (City of Everett), direct customers, and a group of retail water providers. The District also collects sewage from multiple jurisdictions for treatment at our wastewater treatment plant in Picnic Point and for transfer to King County. A desire to participate and contribute to the development and renewal of this critical public service is foundational to a career at AWWD.
About the Role:
As a Project Engineer, you will partner with the Capital Program Manager to deliver projects that strengthen AWWD’s infrastructure and improve community services. Key focus areas include:
- System Planning: Lead long-range planning efforts to ensure infrastructure can meet the needs of a growing region.
- Water and Wastewater Infrastructure: Manage, design, and construct sewer main and water main projects; oversee pump and lift station replacement and manage upgrades to our wastewater treatment facility.
- System Resiliency: Develop projects for resiliency against variable climate conditions and cyber-security threats.
Focus on design and project management within our Capital Project Engineer roles is essential to enhance the function, quality, and value of AWWD’s infrastructure. This position will work in close collaboration with management, engineers, construction managers, and operations staff to execute infrastructure growth and renewal projects.
Ideal candidates will have a strong background in utility engineering and project management. Familiarity with the operations and maintenance of water and wastewater utilities is highly desirable. Successful applicants will demonstrate excellent communication skills and engage regularly with a diverse range of stakeholders including customers, consultants, neighboring cities, county and state personnel, as well as district staff, Alderwoods management team, and our Board of Commissioners.

Annual Salary:
For 2025: $121,659 - $163,072
Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
· Professional Engineer (PE) license in Washington State.
· Four years of progressively responsible experience as a PE..
· Strong communication skills to engage with diverse teams, stakeholders, and community members.
