Description

The City of Gresham is inviting qualified applicants to apply for the Engineer Senior position in the Water Engineering Division of the Department of Environmental Services. The primary purpose of this role is to lead a team of three engineers and engineering technicians in the design and delivery of drinking water related capital projects. This leadership role requires a blend of practiced expertise in water system design and construction, as well as a passion to mentor and develop other team members. This role is also tasked with providing expert guidance regarding design of the water system to both internal and external stakeholders.

What you will get to do:

  • Provide daily supervision of our engineering design team. The successful candidate will prioritize, assign and review work from our engineering design team. As much of our engineering work is done in-house, this creates the chance for applying your skills and expertise to design and construct capital projects through the mentoring, development and support of subordinate staff. The successful candidate will ensure that projects stay within scope, schedule and budget, and is responsible for defining future staffing needs and overseeing hiring, development and retention of engineering staff
  • Project management of Gresham’s interest in the partnered groundwater system. The City of Gresham and the Rockwood Water Peoples Utility District (Rockwood PUD) have formed a partnership to expand our shared groundwater facilities. The new groundwater system will allow the City to provide an independent source of drinking water to our customers. This $90 million dollar project constructs wells, transmission systems, pumping, storage capacity and treatment systems .Operation of the new facilities is scheduled for spring of 2026. The successful candidate will ensure proper design and construction is achieved on time and within budget.
  • Provide expert guidance regarding design of the water system. The successful candidate is a professional engineer with years of experience in applying design standards and professional judgment toward the needs of our water system and its users. The successful candidate has not only a proven record of effectively applying this expertise but also in communicating to both technical and non-technical audiences. This expert guidance may be exercised in relation to capital projects, development review, and in coordination with other internal and external teams.
  • Lead planning and implementation of construction and engineering projects. The successful candidate is integrally involved in development of the City's capital improvement programs for Water. On occasion, the successful candidate will need to manage capital projects, so they should be welI-versed in delivering capital projects, and in doing so while not neglecting the supervisory and leadership roles associated with this position.
