Covington Water District has an opening in our Engineering Department for a Project Engineer who is responsible for performing engineering and related functions, managing capital improvement projects and developer extensions, and coordinating the District's engineering projects with state, county and local agencies.
Reporting Relationships: This position reports to the Engineering Manager and CIP Supervisor while working closely with others in the Engineering Department. May provide directions to the District’s Engineering Inspector, Project Coordinator(s), GIS Technician, Contractors and Consultants.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Prepares construction plans for District capital improvement and repair projects and assists with the management of District and developer projects.
• Reviews, designs and evaluates other’s design of District and developer projects and assists the Engineering Department in project administration review from concept, design, construction management and project close out.
• Research development issues and develop solutions to proposed projects.
• Applies engineering knowledge to the solution of technical municipal water system development and repair projects.
• Conducts analysis of existing and proposed system components for planning future improvements via
the use of the District’s hydraulic model.
• Evaluate hydraulic analysis to verify current water system and future improvements
• Assists in maintaining standard plans record drawings and specifications.
• Assists the public, developers, consultants, engineers and others with District practices and procedures.
• Performs project-related mapping, surveying and inspects work in progress.
• Assists in solving operation and maintenance and construction-related problems. Assists the District with Reliability Centered Maintenance planning.
• Works directly with outside consultants and contractors concerning District standards and other engineering design and construction requirements. Help guide developers through the District review and approval process.
• Assists with post project close-out activities including filing and supplying audit and asset attribute information while complying with parameters set by the Records Management Program.
• May perform other duties as needed or assigned.
Minimum Experience/Education: Requires a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, 4 years of increasingly responsible experience in public works engineering, with licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) and valid Washington State driver’s license. A Project Management Professional (PMP) designation is also desired but not required.
