Description
Deschutes Valley Water District (DVWD) is seeking individuals to fill the role of Water
Operator/General laborer. In this position, you will be responsible for assisting District crews,
completing operation and maintenance activities, assisting contractors, operating machinery, and
following all site health and safety regulations. A strong work ethic and attention to detail are
essential. This is a temporary position limited to six (6) months with the potential to transition to
regular full-time employment including all benefits.
General Labor Duties and Responsibilities
Unload tools, prepare materials, stack building materials, and set up equipment
Follow instructions from foreman or supervisor
Consult with construction plans
Direct traffic safely around the construction or road maintenance site
Use construction and maintenance tools and equipment to complete daily tasks
Follow all health and safety regulations
Ensure proper PPE is worn for each assigned task
Complete all assigned tasks in a timely and efficient manner
Safely operate a variety of tools including pressure washers, jackhammers, drills, saws, grinders,
etc.
Prepare construction sites by digging, moving dirt, or compacting
Provide assistance to maintenance crew as needed
Clean and clear debris and hazardous materials
Ensure construction equipment and tools are cleaned and stored properly
General Labor Requirements and Qualifications
High school degree or equivalent educational experience; vocational school or trade apprenticeships
a plus
Must be 18 years of age
Ability to physically stand, bend, squat, and lift up to 50 pounds
Positive attitude and excellent work ethic
Able to work independently or as an active member of a team
Excellent interpersonal skills and communication with District team
Driver’s License Required. CDL and/or water operator’s license a plus

of 40 hrs. per week with 9 paid holidays and paid leave accruals according to collective bargaining
agreement with IBEW Local 125.
Salary: $20.86/hr starting, up to $28.44/hr depending on qualifications and experience
