Welcome to the Public Information Committee

Mission Statement

The PNWS-AWWA Public Information Committee provides
communications training to members and highlights their communication
accomplishments through an awards program. We advocate for effective and
meaningful organizational outreach.

Who we are:

Members include Water Communication Professionals working in the
public and private sectors.

What we do (Committee Activities):

We work on behalf of the PNWS AWWA Section to make the following things
happen:

Biennial Communication Awards – Our members organize and run the ‘Excellence
in Communication Awards,’ every two years. This includes determining categories,
encouraging members to enter, judging entries based on merit, and awarding
winners at a ceremony during the annual spring conference. We highlight winners
throughout the year as well.

PNWS-AWWA Conference Track – Members organize and moderate a track of
sessions on timely communication topics. Potential speakers submit abstracts for
consideration by the committee, or sometimes we put together a themed track on
a trending communication topic (e.g. Lead/Copper or Rate Communication).

Webinar or Training – Members organize one webinar/training/workshop per year
on a timely or helpful communications topic.

Communication Articles – Committee members submit articles to AWWA
publications (including Water Matters) from time-to-time.

How to Get Involved:

Monthly Virtual Meetings: Members are scattered through Oregon and
Washington (and we are hoping to someday have Idaho representation as well), so
we meet virtually. Our current schedule is the third Thursday of the month for an
hour or so to discuss progress on committee activities, but we are flexible based on
availability so if you are interested in volunteering, please reach out to one of us for
more information.
